1 Chronicles 29 1 Furthermore David the
king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom
alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender,
and the work is great: for the palace is
not for man, but for the LORD God.
2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the
house of my God the gold for things to be made of
gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the
brass for things of brass, the iron for things
of iron, and wood for things of wood; onyx stones,
and stones to be set, glistering stones, and of
divers colours, and all manner of precious stones, and
marble stones in abundance.
3 Moreover, because I have set my affection to the
house of my God, I have of mine own proper good, of gold
and silver, which I have given to the house of my
God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy
house.
4 Even three thousand talents of gold, of
the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined
silver, to overlay the walls of the houses withal:
5 The gold for things of gold, and the
silver for things of silver, and for all manner of
work to be made by the hands of artificers. And
who then is willing to consecrate his service this
day unto the LORD?
6 ¶ Then the chief of the fathers and princes of
the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and
of hundreds, with the rulers of the king's work, offered
willingly,
7 And gave for the service of the house of God of
gold five thousand talents and ten thousand drams, and of
silver ten thousand talents, and of brass eighteen
thousand talents, and one hundred thousand talents of
iron.
8 And they with whom precious stones were
found gave them to the treasure of the house of
the LORD, by
the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9 Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered
willingly, because with perfect heart they offered
willingly to the LORD: and David the king also rejoiced with great
joy.
10 ¶ Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the
congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our
father, for ever and ever.
11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and
the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that
is in the heaven and in the earth is thine;
thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted
as head above all.
12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and
thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power
and might; and in thine hand it is to make great,
and to give strength unto all.
13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and
praise thy glorious name.
14 But who am I, and what is my
people, that we should be able to offer so willingly
after this sort? for all things come of thee, and
of thine own have we given thee.
15 For we are strangers before thee, and
sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on
the earth are as a shadow, and there is
none abiding.
16 O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared
to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh
of thine hand, and is all thine own.
17 I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart,
and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the
uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all
these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people,
which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee.
18 O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our
fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the
thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their
heart unto thee:
19 And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to
keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes,
and to do all these things, and to build the
palace, for the which I have made provision.
20 ¶ And David said to all the congregation, Now
bless the LORD
your God. And all the congregation blessed the LORD God of their fathers,
and bowed down their heads, and worshipped the LORD, and the king.
21 And they sacrificed sacrifices unto the LORD, and offered burnt
offerings unto the LORD, on the morrow after that day, even a
thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand
lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in
abundance for all Israel:
22 And did eat and drink before the LORD on that day with great
gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the
second time, and anointed him unto the LORD to be the chief
governor, and Zadok to be priest.
23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of
David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed
him.
24 And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all
the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves
unto Solomon the king.
25 And the LORD magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of
all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal
majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.
26 ¶ Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all
Israel.
27 And the time that he reigned over Israel was
forty years; seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty
and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.
28 And he died in a good old age, full of days,
riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his
stead.
29 Now the acts of David the king, first and last,
behold, they are written in the book of Samuel the
seer, and in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the
book of Gad the seer,
30 With all his reign and his might, and the times
that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the
kingdoms of the countries.
THE SECOND BOOK OF THE
CHRONICLES
2 Chronicles 1 1 And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in
his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him
exceedingly.
2 Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the
captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges,
and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the
fathers.
3 So Solomon, and all the congregation with him,
went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for
there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God,
which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.
4 But the ark of God had David brought up from
Kirjath-jearim to the place which David had
prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at
Jerusalem.
5 Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son
of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the
tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought
unto it.
6 And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar
before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the
congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings
upon it.
7 ¶ In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and
said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.
8 And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed
great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to
reign in his stead.
9 Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be
established: for thou hast made me king over a people
like the dust of the earth in multitude.
10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go
out and come in before this people: for who can judge
this thy people, that is so great?
11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was in
thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or
honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast
asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for
thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I
have made thee king:
12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto
thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and
honour, such as none of the kings have had that have
been before thee, neither shall there any after thee
have the like.
13 ¶ Then Solomon came from his journey to
the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem,
from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and
reigned over Israel.
14 And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and
he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve
thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities,
and with the king at Jerusalem.
15 And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as
plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the
sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.
16 And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and
linen yarn: the king's merchants received the linen yarn
at a price.
17 And they fetched up, and brought forth out of
Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver,
and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought
they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites,
and for the kings of Syria, by their means.
THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO
SAINT MARK
Mark 1 1 The beginning of the
gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
2 As it is written
in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy
face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
3 The voice of one
crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight.
4 John did baptize
in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance
for the remission of sins.
5 And there went
out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of
Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of
Jordan, confessing their sins.
6 And John was
clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin
about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
7 And preached,
saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the
latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and
unloose.
8 I indeed have
baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with
the Holy Ghost.
9 And it came to
pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of
Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
10 And straightway
coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened,
and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
11 And there came a
voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved
Son, in whom I am well pleased.
12 And immediately
the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
13 And he was there
in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was
with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
14 Now after that
John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee,
preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
15 And saying, The
time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand:
repent ye, and believe the gospel.
16 Now as he walked
by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his
brother casting a net into the sea: for they were
fishers.
17 And Jesus said
unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to
become fishers of men.
18 And straightway
they forsook their nets, and followed him.
19 And when he had
gone a little further thence, he saw James the son
of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the
ship mending their nets.
20 And straightway
he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the
ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
21 And they went
into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he
entered into the synagogue, and taught.
22 And they were
astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one
that had authority, and not as the scribes.
23 And there was in
their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he
cried out,
24 Saying, Let us
alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of
Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who
thou art, the Holy One of God.
25 And Jesus
rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
26 And when the
unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice,
he came out of him.
27 And they were
all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among
themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine
is this? for with authority commandeth he even the
unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
28 And immediately
his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round
about Galilee.
29 And forthwith,
when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered
into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
30 But Simon's
wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him
of her.
31 And he came and
took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately
the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
32 And at even,
when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were
diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
33 And all the city
was gathered together at the door.
34 And he healed
many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many
devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because
they knew him.
35 And in the
morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out,
and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
36 And Simon and
they that were with him followed after him.
37 And when they
had found him, they said unto him, All men seek
for thee.
38 And he said unto
them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach
there also: for therefore came I forth.
39 And he preached
in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out
devils.
40 And there came a
leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him,
and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me
clean.
41 And Jesus, moved
with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched
him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
42 And as soon as
he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him,
and he was cleansed.
43 And he straitly
charged him, and forthwith sent him away;
44 And saith unto
him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way,
shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing
those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto
them.
45 But he went out,
and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad
the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly
enter into the city, but was without in desert places:
and they came to him from every quarter.
