2 Kings 24 1 In his days
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim
became his servant three years: then he turned and
rebelled against him.
2 And the LORD sent against him bands
of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of
the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and
sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the
word of the LORD, which he spake by his servants the prophets.
3 Surely at the commandment of the LORD came this upon
Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the
sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did;
4 And also for the innocent blood that he shed:
for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon.
5 ¶ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all
that he did, are they not written in the book of
the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
6 So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers: and
Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.
7 And the king of Egypt came not again any more
out of his land: for the king of Babylon had taken from
the river of Egypt unto the river Euphrates all that
pertained to the king of Egypt.
8 ¶ Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when
he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three
months. And his mother's name was Nehushta, the
daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.
9 And he did that which was evil in the
sight of the LORD, according to all that his father had done.
10 ¶ At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar
king of Babylon came up against Jerusalem, and the city
was besieged.
11 And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against
the city, and his servants did besiege it.
12 And Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the
king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants,
and his princes, and his officers: and the king of
Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign.
13 And he carried out thence all the treasures of
the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house, and cut
in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of
Israel had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had said.
14 And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the
princes, and all the mighty men of valour, even
ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths:
none remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the
land.
15 And he carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon, and
the king's mother, and the king's wives, and his
officers, and the mighty of the land, those
carried he into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.
16 And all the men of might, even seven
thousand, and craftsmen and smiths a thousand, all that
were strong and apt for war, even them the
king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.
17 ¶ And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah his
father's brother king in his stead, and changed his name
to Zedekiah.
18 Zedekiah was twenty and one years old
when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in
Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the
daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
19 And he did that which was evil in the
sight of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.
20 For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in
Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his
presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of
Babylon.
2 Kings 25 1 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his
reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the
month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came,
he, and all his host, against Jerusalem, and pitched
against it; and they built forts against it round about.
2 And the city was besieged unto the eleventh year
of king Zedekiah.
3 And on the ninth day of the fourth
month the famine prevailed in the city, and there was no
bread for the people of the land.
4 ¶ And the city was broken up, and all the men of
war fled by night by the way of the gate between
two walls, which is by the king's garden: (now the
Chaldees were against the city round about:) and the
king went the way toward the plain.
5 And the army of the Chaldees pursued after the
king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho: and all
his army were scattered from him.
6 So they took the king, and brought him up to the
king of Babylon to Riblah; and they gave judgment upon
him.
7 And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his
eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him
with fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon.
8 ¶ And in the fifth month, on the seventh day
of the month, which is the nineteenth year of king
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, came Nebuzar-adan,
captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon,
unto Jerusalem:
9 And he burnt the house of the LORD, and the king's house,
and all the houses of Jerusalem, and every great man's
house burnt he with fire.
10 And all the army of the Chaldees, that were
with the captain of the guard, brake down the walls
of Jerusalem round about.
11 Now the rest of the people that were left
in the city, and the fugitives that fell away to the king
of Babylon, with the remnant of the multitude, did
Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard carry away.
12 But the captain of the guard left of the poor of
the land to be vinedressers and husbandmen.
13 And the pillars of brass that were in the
house of the LORD, and the bases, and the brasen sea that was
in the house of the LORD, did the Chaldees break in pieces, and carried
the brass of them to Babylon.
14 And the pots, and the shovels, and the snuffers,
and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass wherewith
they ministered, took they away.
15 And the firepans, and the bowls, and such
things as were of gold, in gold, and of
silver, in silver, the captain of the guard took
away.
16 The two pillars, one sea, and the bases which
Solomon had made for the house of the LORD; the brass of all
these vessels was without weight.
17 The height of the one pillar was eighteen
cubits, and the chapiter upon it was brass: and
the height of the chapiter three cubits; and the wreathen
work, and pomegranates upon the chapiter round about, all
of brass: and like unto these had the second pillar with
wreathen work.
18 ¶ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the
chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the
three keepers of the door:
19 And out of the city he took an officer that was
set over the men of war, and five men of them that were
in the king's presence, which were found in the city, and
the principal scribe of the host, which mustered the
people of the land, and threescore men of the people of
the land that were found in the city:
20 And Nebuzar-adan captain of the guard took
these, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah:
21 And the king of Babylon smote them, and slew
them at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was
carried away out of their land.
22 ¶ And as for the people that remained in
the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon
had left, even over them he made Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, ruler.
23 And when all the captains of the armies, they
and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made
Gedaliah governor, there came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan the son of
Careah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth the
Netophathite, and Jaazaniah the son of a Maachathite,
they and their men.
24 And Gedaliah sware to them, and to their men,
and said unto them, Fear not to be the servants of the
Chaldees: dwell in the land, and serve the king of
Babylon; and it shall be well with you.
25 But it came to pass in the seventh month, that
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the
seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and smote
Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees
that were with him at Mizpah.
26 And all the people, both small and great, and
the captains of the armies, arose, and came to Egypt: for
they were afraid of the Chaldees.
27 ¶ And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth
year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the
twelfth month, on the seven and twentieth day of
the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in
the year that he began to reign did lift up the head of
Jehoiachin king of Judah out of prison;
28 And he spake kindly to him, and set his throne
above the throne of the kings that were with him
in Babylon;
29 And changed his prison garments: and he did eat
bread continually before him all the days of his life.
30 And his allowance was a continual
allowance given him of the king, a daily rate for every
day, all the days of his life.
Matthew 9 1 And he entered into a
ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.
2 And, behold, they
brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed:
and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the
palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.
3 And, behold,
certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man
blasphemeth.
4 And Jesus knowing
their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your
hearts?
5 For whether is
easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to
say, Arise, and walk?
6 But that ye may
know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive
sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise,
take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.
7 And he arose, and
departed to his house.
8 But when the
multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified
God, which had given such power unto men.
9 ¶ And as Jesus
passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew,
sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him,
Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
10 ¶ And it came
to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many
publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his
disciples.
11 And when the
Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples,
Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?
12 But when Jesus
heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole
need not a physician, but they that are sick.
13 But go ye and
learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and
not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous,
but sinners to repentance.
14 ¶ Then came to
him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the
Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?
15 And Jesus said
unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as
long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will
come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and
then shall they fast.
16 No man putteth a
piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is
put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the
rent is made worse.
17 Neither do men
put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break,
and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but
they put new wine into new bottles, and both are
preserved.
18 ¶ While he
spake these things unto them, behold, there came a
certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is
even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and
she shall live.
19 And Jesus arose,
and followed him, and so did his disciples.
20 ¶ And, behold,
a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve
years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his
garment:
21 For she said
within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall
be whole.
22 But Jesus turned
him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of
good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the
woman was made whole from that hour.
23 And when Jesus
came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and
the people making a noise,
24 He said unto
them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth.
And they laughed him to scorn.
25 But when the
people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the
hand, and the maid arose.
26 And the fame
hereof went abroad into all that land.
27 ¶ And when
Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him,
crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy
on us.
28 And when he was
come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus
saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this?
They said unto him, Yea, Lord.
29 Then touched he
their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto
you.
30 And their eyes
were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See
that no man know it.
31 But they, when
they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that
country.
32 ¶ As they went
out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed
with a devil.
33 And when the
devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes
marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
34 But the
Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince
of the devils.
35 And Jesus went
about all the cities and villages, teaching in their
synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and
healing every sickness and every disease among the
people.
36 ¶ But when he
saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them,
because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep
having no shepherd.
37 Then saith he
unto his disciples, The harvest truly is
plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye
therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send
forth labourers into his harvest.
Matthew 10 1 And when he had called
unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against
unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner
of sickness and all manner of disease.
2 Now the names of
the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is
called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son
of Zebedee, and John his brother;
3 Philip, and
Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the
son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was
Thaddaeus;
4 Simon the
Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
5 These twelve
Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into
the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the
Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to
the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as ye go,
preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick,
cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils:
freely ye have received, freely give.
9 Provide neither
gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
10 Nor scrip for your
journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet
staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.
11 And into
whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it
is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.
12 And when ye come
into an house, salute it.
13 And if the house
be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not
worthy, let your peace return to you.
14 And whosoever
shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye
depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of
your feet.
15 Verily I say
unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of
Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that
city.
16 ¶ Behold, I
send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye
therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17 But beware of
men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and
they will scourge you in their synagogues;
18 And ye shall be
brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a
testimony against them and the Gentiles.
19 But when they
deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall
speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what
ye shall speak.
20 For it is not ye
that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh
in you.
21 And the brother
shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the
child: and the children shall rise up against their
parents, and cause them to be put to death.
22 And ye shall be
hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that
endureth to the end shall be saved.
23 But when they
persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for
verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the
cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
24 The disciple is
not above his master, nor the servant above his
lord.
25 It is enough for
the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as
his lord. If they have called the master of the house
Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of
his household?
26 Fear them not
therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not
be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
27 What I tell you
in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye
hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the
housetops.
28 And fear not
them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the
soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both
soul and body in hell.
29 Are not two
sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not
fall on the ground without your Father.
30 But the very
hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Fear ye not
therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
32 Whosoever
therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess
also before my Father which is in heaven.
33 But whosoever
shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my
Father which is in heaven.
34 Think not that I
am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace,
but a sword.
35 For I am come to
set a man at variance against his father, and the
daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law
against her mother in law.
36 And a man's foes
shall be they of his own household.
37 He that loveth
father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he
that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy
of me.
38 And he that
taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not
worthy of me.
39 He that findeth
his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for
my sake shall find it.
40 ¶ He that
receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me
receiveth him that sent me.
41 He that
receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall
receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a
righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall
receive a righteous man's reward.
42 And whosoever
shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup
of cold water only in the name of a disciple,
verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his
reward.
Matthew 11 1 And it came to pass,
when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve
disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in
their cities.
2 Now when John had
heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of
his disciples,
3 And said unto
him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for
another?
4 Jesus answered
and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things
which ye do hear and see:
5 The blind receive
their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed,
and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor
have the gospel preached to them.
6 And blessed is he,
whosoever shall not be offended in me.
7 ¶ And as they
departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes
concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to
see? A reed shaken with the wind?
8 But what went ye
out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold,
they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
9 But what went ye
out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more
than a prophet.
10 For this is he,
of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before
thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
11 Verily I say
unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath
not risen a greater than John the Baptist:
notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven
is greater than he.
12 And from the
days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven
suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
13 For all the
prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14 And if ye will
receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
15 He that hath
ears to hear, let him hear.
16 ¶ But whereunto
shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children
sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
17 And saying, We
have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have
mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
18 For John came
neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a
devil.
19 The Son of man
came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man
gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and
sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
20 ¶ Then began he
to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works
were done, because they repented not:
21 Woe unto thee,
Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty
works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and
Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and
ashes.
22 But I say unto
you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the
day of judgment, than for you.
23 And thou,
Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be
brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have
been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have
remained until this day.
24 But I say unto
you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of
Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
25 ¶ At that time
Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these
things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them
unto babes.
26 Even so, Father:
for so it seemed good in thy sight.
27 All things are
delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the
Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father,
save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will
reveal him.
28 ¶ Come unto me,
all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will
give you rest.
29 Take my yoke
upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in
heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is
easy, and my burden is light.
